This week on Ours to Protect we’re speaking to members of Brilliant Ballybunion about their efforts to track and protect the Ringed Plover, a once ubiquitious wading bird who has experienced decling numbers, and is now under amber conservation status in Ireland.

We speak to Sean Culhane, who has been observing the bird since childhood, as well as Dr Barry O’Donoghue from the National Parks and Wildlife Service,  who’s involved in the programme, along with at least 30 volunteers. We also speak with volunteers Aine Hellard and Sarah Nolan, as well as 6 year-old Oscar, 7 year-old Michael and 5 year-old Christopher.

Ours to Protect is brought to you by Radio Kerry and the IBI and funded by Commisiún na Mean with the television licence fee.
