Did You Know:
- Ballyphehane Tidy Towns started by one man who wanted to change his town for the better.
- He started clean ups in his area with the help of his niece & nephew. After a tweet went out, he started getting more & more volunteers.
- They targeted heavy littered areas such as Pearse Square where there are businesses & an area of antisocial behaviour.
- They power washed it, got businesses involved to help, volunteer & worked with Ballyphehane Men’s Shed to help build planters.
- A common item they see is disposable vapes during each litter pick.
- Since then they do more than just litter pick ups. Now they are painting murals in the area, building wooden ‘Welcome To Ballyphehane’, using platers, hosting workshops & working with schools.
- They are holding art workshops with schools where kids are creating tiles to exhibit in the area.
- The schools also help to do litter picks to emphasise education & pride of place.
- They are currently creating a sensory garden that will have plants, hedges, trees & a path. It will have textures, scents & colours from plants & will be wheelchair accessible.
- All these projects are funded based, so they rely on funds to complete projects.
