Did You Know:
- Beaumont Quarry is an old quarry that belonged to the Beamish & Crawford family.
- It has since lost it’s function as a quarry, but is now a green space and haven ford wildlife and nature.
- There are 154 different types of plant species there.
- It’s also home to protected species like the red fox, bats, yellow meadow ants and crickets.
- It’s also home to the little robin, a rare robin that is native in just 11 locations in Southern Ireland.
- The Cork Nature Network maintain the site, have located areas within the site for certain biodiverse functions – from rewilding areas, tree planting and creating habitats fro the creatures.
- It is at risk of destruction in some areas due to Cork Bus Connects proposed plans to create a car park and route through the quarry. This will ultimately affect the protected wildlife’s habitat.
