Did You Know:
- The Deposit Return Scheme comes into effect 1st February 2024.
- When you buy a drink in a plastic bottle, aluminium or steel can that features the Re-turn logo, you pay a small deposit in addition to the price of the drink.
- When you return your empty and undamaged drink container to participating shops and supermarkets, you get your deposit back in full.
- Items must be in good condition and empty to be returned. If the barcode on the item can’t be read it will be rejected.
- As a circular economy initiative, the new Deposit Return Scheme aims to move away from the ‘take make and dispose’ culture to one of returning valuable materials, and keeping them in the economy for as long as possible.
- Just 32% of plastic was recycled in Ireland, so it’s hoped that the return scheme will increase this number.
What You Can Do:
- Keep your items with the logo and return to the banks across the country.
- If you find items littered, you can bring these back and earn some money.
