Did You Know:
- Solar energy is becoming one of the biggest sources of renewable energy in Ireland.
- Ireland’s Climate Action Plan for 2030 has included a target to increase the share of electricity generated from renewable sources up to 80% in 2030.
- The government has set out a target of generating 8 gigawatts of energy by 2030. This year we reached our first gigawatt. This is enough power for roughly 400,000 homes.
- Panels create energy using sun and light. These are converted and used in the home. Electricity you generate from solar panels can be stored in a battery for usage, stored as credit on your account, or it can be sold to the grid through your electricity provider.
- The Micro-generation Support Scheme allows homes, businesses, farms and community buildings to sell any excess electricity they produce from solar panels back to the grid. If you sell excess renewable energy to the grid, you get a payment known as a Clean Export Guarantee.
- You can apply to the SEAI for a grant towards the cost of installing solar panels. The installation process can take 1 -2 days.
- There’s about 500 domestic properties signing up to the grid each week.
What You Can Do:
- Contact the SEAI to hear what grants are available to you before installing solar panels.
- Look at the SEAI thereafter to find reliable solar panel installers.
