Based on the results of the study, buying refurbished smartphones, tablets and laptops instead of new devices saves :
- Between 69 and 91% of CO2 emissions with an average across all devices of 80%,
- Between 60 and 93% of e-waste, with an average across all devices of 73%,
- Between 86 and 97% of water consumption with an average across all appliances of 90%.
According to EU data, each person in Europe is responsible for stockpiling on average 5kg of e-waste annually. While according to WEEE Ireland, the average home has 15-20 used or broken appliances being hoarded waiting to be recycled.
