Did You Know:
- Every town and village in Cork is made up of its own biodiversity of wildlife, flora, fauna and fungi which make up an ecosystem.
- Ballydehob have established their own Biodiversity Action Plan, due to concerns about the local estuary that has been contaminated by waste.
- The Ballydonuts are the local group who kickstarted it.
- The plan involves groups working on tree planting, green spaces. A group on waste water treatment. A group on freshwater, rivers and streams.
- Surveys were carried out on butterflies, birds, and invertebrates.
- Ospreys and sand martins call it home. So they are creating habitats for them.
- It found over 700 invertebrate species.
- There are multiple butterfly species too.
- The Cork Nature Network helps communities to develop Biodiversity Action Plans.
