This week Highland Radio spoke to ECO-UNESCO about the Young Environmentalist Awards.

Emissions Gap Report 2023 published this week:

  1. From the beginning of January until the beginning of October 86 days were recorded with temperatures over 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
  2. September was the hottest recorded month.
  3. Global greenhouse gas emissions increased by 1.2%  from 2021 to 2022 – a new record of 57.4 Gigatonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent 
  4. If current policies don’t change, global warming will be 3°C above pre-industrial levels in this lifetime.

Young Environmentalist Awards

  1. The Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) aims to empower young people aged 10-18 to take on local environmental issues.
  2. There are three age categories and a number of topics that can be covered.
  3. Groups who REGISTER online take part in a free ‘6 Steps to Success’ regional training.
  4. Loreto Little Litter Pickers were finalists in last years waste category – find out more about their project HERE on page 47.
