Live 95 journalist Sandra Quinn lives outside Kilfinane in County Limerick – just under a one-hour drive to the city and she took the bus, as part of the new Connecting Ireland initiative, into the city.
In this week’s experience, she gave her own experience of using the bus to get to work and also spoke to a bus driver about the trends, a Bus Éireann supervisor about the new route and some passengers.
The difference taking the bus instead of the car can make;
- A Red C poll in the summer of 2023 found that 67% of Irish adults want to reduce their carbon emissions and believe it’s important.
- 90% of car drivers would swap the car in favour of walking, cycling or public transport for a journey of 2km or less.
- If a driver did one less 4km car trip every day, they would save 200kg of CO2 each year.
- Connecting Ireland aims to connect more people in rural Ireland to cities and bigger towns.
