Did you know?……

The club has been awarded a grant through the Community Foundation Ireland and National Parks and Wildlife service. Education Minister and Kerry TD Norma Foley recently launched the club’s latest project at Tralee Bay Wetlands.

This is the second grant awarded to TRC under the CFI Biodiversity Fund. It follows funding for TRC’s preparation of its Community Biodiversity Action Plan published last year.

Ecologist, Dr Noel Mulligan, has been assisting with investigations of the Tralee Ship Canal for a number of years. He also drafted the club’s Biodiversity Action Plan, titled: Tralee Ship Canal – A Gateway to Biodiversity. The current project is called Biodiversity Awareness Implementation Project.

Tralee Bay is a wonderful place. There are five Special Conservation Areas (for habitat protection), three Special Protection Areas (for protected bird species) and two Nature Reserves. Anyone interested in Tralee Rowing Club Biodiversity events (Guided Walks, Showcase Event on 19th May in Tralee Bay Wetlands etc.) can contact [email protected].

Dr. Noel Mulligan recommends getting out in nature and seeing for yourself what the canal has to offer. His mantra is awareness, awareness, awareness, observe, observe, observe and question, question, question.
