This week Radio Nova looked at the emergence of Refill Shops around the country. Did you know…
- Ireland generated 1.12 million tonnes of packaging waste in 2020.
- Producing plastic products from recycled plastics reduces energy requirements by 66%. • Recycling just 1 tonne of plastics saves 1,000–2,000 gallons of petroleum. • It takes up to 500 years for plastic to decompose.
Why use a Refill Shop?
- Most grocery products can be refilled in one of these shops
- Using a refill shop cuts out the cost to the customer of the usual unnecessary packaging • By using a refill shop you are also supporting various local producers
How does it work?
- Simply bring in your own containers. We weigh
- The container is then weighed before it’s filled, and then reweighed.
- You pay for the products, not the packaging!
