Did you know…
- Afforestation is the process of planting trees in an area where there was previously no forest.
- It is often done to combat deforestation or desertification, to create new forests for timber or other forest products.
- It can also be done to provide other environmental or social benefits
Why is Afforestation/ forest restoration important?
- Afforestation can help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which can help mitigate climate change.
- In addition to providing timber and other forest products, afforestation can also provide habitat for wildlife and help prevent soil erosion.
- Afforestation can also have social benefits, such as providing recreational opportunities and creating jobs in the forestry industry.
What can I do to help protect and develop native forests and woodland?
- You can support organizations that plant trees or work to protect forests.
- Reduce your own carbon footprint by using public transportation or biking instead of driving.
- Recycle, and reduce your energy consumption.
- You can also plant trees in your own yard or community, or participate in local tree-planting events.
